August Gompper

August Gompper (born September 13, 1886 in Laufen , Oberamt Balingen , † April 20, 1969 in Stuttgart ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending primary school, Gompper learned the trade of fitter and plumber and worked as a fitter in Obertürkheim from around 1903 . In 1905 he became a union member. After completing his military service from 1906 to 1907, he joined the SPD in 1908. From 1918 to 1930 he was chairman of the SPD Obertürkheim-Uhlbach and in June 1919 took part in the SPD party conference in Weimar . From 1919 to 1922 he was a member of the Obertürkheim municipal council. In 1928 he succeeded in entering the Württemberg state parliament , to which he was a member until 1933. Under pressure from the National Socialists , he resigned his mandate in 1933. From 1945 to 1948 Gompper took over the chairmanship of the SPD Obertürkheim-Uhlbach again. From 1946 to 1951 he was district chairman and from 1954 to 1966 district adviser in Obertürkheim-Uhlbach. His candidacies for the Constituent Assembly of the State of Württemberg in 1919 and the State of Württemberg-Baden in 1946 were unsuccessful, as was his candidacy for the first Landtag of the State of Württemberg-Baden.

Private

Gompper was the son of the spinning miller Johannes (* 1856; † 1942) and his wife Luise Gompper (* 1859; † 1919) and had three siblings. August Gompper married Anna Schaff in 1909. The marriage had two children. He belonged to the Evangelical Church. He was buried in the Obertürkheim cemetery.
