August Gottwald

August Gottwald (born August 8, 1877 in Vienna , † February 8, 1957 in Haag am Hausruck , Upper Austria ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician .

Life

Gottwald studied law at the University of Vienna . In 1898 he became active in the Corps Alemannia Vienna . In 1903 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. He worked in the judicial service until 1910 and then opened a law firm in Haag am Hausruck. After serving in the war on the Serbian and Russian fronts, he took over the office of the local savings bank in 1918. He also held leading positions in business. He was married to the daughter of a lawyer and had two daughters.

In 1924 Gottwald was elected mayor of Haag am Hausruck and remained so until 1938 and again from 1945 and 1951. In 1934 he became Gaufführer of the Heimwehr and a member of the national leadership of the Fatherland Front and finally between 1934 and 1938 State Councilor .
