August Gräser (born November 6, 1877 in Schwanheim ; † May 19, 1961 ) was a German municipal official and politician.

Career

Civil service career

Gräser came as the son of the sculptor Johann Gräser and Anna Maria Susanne Gräser, geb. Kaltenbach, to the world. He started school at the elementary school in Schwanheim in 1883, went to the Realgymnasium in Höchst in 1892, and from 1893 attended the humanistic grammar school in Montabaur. In March 1896, he passed the Abitur and then joined the city of Frankfurt am Main as an administrative eleve. He became a cashier at the slaughterhouse and cattle yard, then city assistant in the city's trade and traffic office. In 1906 he became city secretary at the city treasury, the following year he was appointed civil servant for life. In 1912 he was appointed city ​​secretary at the city chancellery under Lord Mayor Georg Voigt . In 1925 he was entrusted with the management of the traffic and economic office of the city of Frankfurt with the rank of administrative director. During his term of office, the decisions regarding the construction of the forest stadium , the industrial area at the Osthafen and the wholesale market hall were made .

From 1939 his health deteriorated and he could not do his job for months at times. In December 1944, Lord Mayor Friedrich Krebs approved his retirement, which took place on May 1, 1945.

City council

Gräser advocated community issues as early as the early 1920s when Schwanheim primary school was to be expanded to include secondary school classes. In 1946, the city council elected him honorary city councilor in the city of Frankfurt for a period of two years. In 1948 he was appointed head of department for urban fire extinguishing. On December 31, 1952, he was released from his official duties.
