August Gysin

August Gysin (born June 30, 1816 in Liestal ; † June 13, 1876 ibid) was a politician in the Swiss canton of Basel-Landschaft .

Life

August Gysin studied law in Heidelberg and was second court clerk in Liestal from 1840 to 1842 and first from 1842 to 1854 . In 1850 he was elected to the Constitutional Council as a representative of the opposition so-called movement party. He saw a tangle in the close cooperation between the cantonal government and the Swiss Central Railway and was therefore one of the most important critics. In 1854 he was himself elected to the government council and headed the justice and police department. In 1857 he was voted out of office. From July 1855 up to and including June 1856 he was in the parliamentary group of the Left in the Council of States . In 1875 he was for a short time President of the High Court and Public Prosecutor and from 1876 he held the post of first High Court clerk until the end of his life.
