Joachim Möller (economist)

Joachim Möller (born January 30, 1953 in Reinstorf near Lüneburg) is a German economist and from October 2007 to September 2018 director of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg .

His research areas include wage structures and wage inequalities, international comparisons and regional analyzes; economic effects of the EU eastward expansion ; Effects of Minimum Wages .

In the CORIS (cluster-oriented regional information system) project started by Möller, networks of companies and supporting institutions in different regions - so-called " clusters " - are made visible.

Life

Möller studied philosophy , political science and economics in Tübingen, Strasbourg and Constance . In 1990 he completed his habilitation at the University of Konstanz . The topic of the habilitation thesis is: "The hysteresis phenomenon in labor market and inflation models" .

In 1991 he was appointed professor of economics at the University of Regensburg . From 2000 to 2003 he was on the board of the European Association of Labor Economists (EALE). In 2004 the committee for regional theory and politics elected him chairman of the Verein für Socialpolitik . From 2005 to October 2007 he headed the Eastern European Institute in Munich , which was relocated to Regensburg in August / September 2007. Since 2005 he has also been a member of the IREBS Institute for Real Estate Management , where he is responsible for regional economics in research and teaching. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for East and Southeast European Research and the University Council of the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg .

Positions

In the Handelsblatt interview on February 9, 2010, Möller opposes a fundamental reform of the basic security and instead calls for a generally binding minimum wage.
