August Heitmann (politician)

August Heitmann (born May 28, 1869 in Boksee ; † July 15, 1941 in Klein Barkau ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Heitmann was born the son of a shoemaker. After attending primary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a tailor. He worked as a tailor until 1905 and at the same time worked for the tailors' association in Kiel . From October 1905 until his dismissal in 1933 he worked as a union employee in Berlin-Neukölln , first for the tailors 'association, then for the clothing workers' association, and from 1926 in the association's main office. Furthermore, he was temporarily a member of the cooperative council in Berlin .

Heitmann joined the SPD. From 1914 to 1920 he was a city councilor in Neukölln and in the 1920s he was a member of the Berlin city council . In January 1919 he ran unsuccessfully in the election to the German National Assembly . From September 8, 1924 until the end of the first legislative period, he was a successor to the Prussian state parliament , and from May 1928 until the end of the third legislative period, he was an elected member. In parliament he represented constituency 3 (Potsdam II).

Heitmann lived in Berlin until 1938 and then returned to his homeland, where he died in 1941.
