August Holler (local history researcher)
August Holler (* 1883 ; † April 9, 1971 ) was a German journalist , author and local researcher in Hamburg .
Life
Holler was the editor of the Hamburg foreign newspaper for 50 years . He collected Hamburgensien and until 1943 owned the largest private collection on Hamburg's history. It burned in the bombings of 1943. He then managed to put together a smaller collection again, but after his death it was dispersed by auction .
He wrote several articles on North German families (clan Holler, Rendsburg-Heiligenstädten) and chronicles of North German cities in the service of the Hamburg Foreign Gazette . Together with Otto Erich Kiesel , he wrote articles on the history of the Hamburg cemetery. He edited the history of the Hamburg foreign newspaper and was intensively involved in researching Hamburg's street names.
August Holler was a member of the Hamburg Genealogical Society .
