August Humer

August Humer (born January 28, 1947 in Ried im Innkreis , Upper Austria ; † January 18, 2007 ) was an Austrian organist and harpsichordist .

Life

education

August Humer began taking piano lessons at the age of 7 and soon learned to play the organ. He attended the humanistic grammar school in Ried and then studied theory and organ at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and continued his studies in Vienna, with Anton Heiller and Isolde Ahlgrimm , among others , and also studied musicology.

He completed his studies summa cum laude and then traveled to America to take up the position of choirmaster and organist at St. James Episcopal Church in Richmond. He was also very successful in Europe and won several prizes.

Further stations

Humer's concert career ranged from Spain to Scandinavia in Europe. In addition, several tours took him to Canada and the USA.

Since 1973 he has taught organ, harpsichord, historical keyboard instruments and chamber music at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz . From 1975 he was the cathedral organist on the Bruckner organ in the old cathedral in Linz.

He appeared regularly in piano duo with Johannes Marian and played contemporary arrangements such as those of Anton Bruckner's symphonies . In 2000 he played the entire organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach in a concert series for the second time .
