August Husemann

August Heinrich Husemann (born September 5, 1833 in Stolzenau , † July 17, 1877 in Thusis ) was a German pharmacist and chemist .

Life

After private lessons and attending high school in Detmold , Husemann started his apprenticeship at the Detmold court pharmacy in 1848 . This was followed by positions at pharmacies in Lamspringe , Aurich and Nienburg before he moved to the University of Göttingen in 1857 . He passed the state examination in pharmacy in 1858 and then devoted himself to studying chemistry. He worked there for Friedrich Wöhler, among others, and in 1860 became an assistant at the physiological-chemical laboratory, which was new at the time. On August 8, 1860, he was charged with a dissertation on the components of Daucus Carota for Dr. phil. PhD , followed in 1862 by his habilitation in pharmaceutical forensic chemistry. The isolation of lysine also fell during this time . Health problems, he got lung bleeding, forced him to stay in Italy .

1864 Husemannstraße received a reputation as a professor of chemistry at the cantonal school in Chur . There he devoted himself mainly to investigations of the mineral water of Graubünden . He repeatedly had to limit his work due to further lung bleeding. In 1876, health reasons forced him to retire . He died in his sister's house in Thusis.

He received wide recognition, among other things, for his handbooks and textbooks, which he sometimes edited with his cousin Theodor Husemann .
