August Kościesza-Żaba
August Kościesza-Żaba (* 1801 , † January 3, 1894 in Smyrna ) was a Polish orientalist , ethnologist and diplomat in the Russian service.
Life
He studied Eastern languages in Saint Petersburg from 1824 to 1828 and then worked in Russian consulates in Jaffa and Smyrna . From 1848 to 1866 he was the Russian consul in Erzurum .
Kościesza-Żaba examined the customs of the Kurds and published his findings in the French publication Recueil des notices et récits de la littérature et des tribus du Kourdistan (1861). In 1879 he published the first French- Kurdish dictionary.
