biography

The Lürman family has been proven as merchants and also as mayor of Iserlohn from the 15th century . After 1800 they had prestigious positions in Bremen. August Lürman's father, the Eltermann (spokesman for the merchants) Theodor Gerhard Lürman (1789–1865) was known for his extensive collection of paintings, some of which came as a gift from the heirs in 1903 to the Kunsthalle Bremen . The 18-year-old Marga Lürman from the film Summer in Lesmona based on the novel by Marga Berck also came from the family.

Dr. jur. August Lürman was the father of Senator Dr. Theodor Lürman (1861-1932). Like his son, he was a doctor of law, then a public prosecutor and, from the 1880s, Senator of Bremen. Between 1882 and 1918 the mayors of Bremen were elected by the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen from among its members for one calendar year each, but were able to exercise their office several times. Lürman was mayor four times in 1887, 1889, 1892 and 1894.

He was buried in the Riensberg cemetery in Bremen (grave location AA 43a).

The Lürmanstraße in Bremen- Schwachhausen was named after the family.
