August Leopolder

August Leopolder (born July 6, 1905 in Munich ; † August 31, 2006 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German pianist and piano teacher.

Life

Leopolder was a student of Carl Adolf Martienssen and Egon Petri . During the Second World War he taught first in Aschaffenburg, then from March 1941 at the Musisches Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main under the direction of Kurt Thomas . From 1950 he was a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts there , where he also worked as a member of the Senate and dean of the (then) Department of Artistic Education.

On the occasion of his 100th birthday, he was made Honorary Senator of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.

In a press release from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, he is described as “a real Bavarian personality with a rough shell and some rough edges but with a soft core”.
