Mike Morris (born July 14, 1983 in Braintree , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player . Most recently he played for the Worcester Sharks in the American Hockey League on the position of right winger .

Career

Mike Morris began his career on the Saint Sebastian's School ice hockey team . There he was able to achieve 106 points in 59 games within two years and thus convinced the talent scouts of the San Jose Sharks , who selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the first round at position 27. This made Morris the first player to be drawn in the first round in the NHL Entry Draft before his freshman year of college .

Morris did not move directly to the National Hockey League , but studied sociology for the time being at Northeastern University . He joined the college's ice hockey team, the Northeastern Huskies, who played in the Hockey East division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Although the team belonged to the mediocre of the league at best, Morris made it to the Hockey East All-Rookie team after his first season. In the following years he was able to improve from season to season. While he scored 30 points in 34 games in the 2003/04 season, the following year it was 39 points. During the 2005/06 season, however, he could not play a single game because he suffered from the effects of a concussion he had sustained in a car accident. In autumn 2006 he was able to be used again and led his team on the ice as team captain.

After completing his studies in spring 2007, he signed a standard contract on April 23, 2007 with the San Jose Sharks , which invited him to the training camp in the summer. Since he could not prevail and won a place in the NHL regular squad, the management sent him to the Worcester Sharks , the farm team in the American Hockey League .
