August Ludwig Schott

August Ludwig Schott (born November 25, 1751 in Göppingen , † April 5, 1787 in Erlangen ) was a German legal scholar and university professor. He was defendant , court attorney and professor of law in Tübingen as well as councilor in Erlangen.

Live and act

August Ludwig Schott was the son of Christoph Friedrich Schott , the Göppingen deacon and later professor and librarian from Tübingen. He studied in Tübingen, where he received his master's degree in 1768, then devoted himself to legal scholarship and received his doctorate in law in 1772. In 1773 he made a trip through a large part of Germany and Switzerland.

In 1774 he practiced as the Württemberg government advocate in Tübingen and held legal lectures there, so that in 1775 he was appointed to a professorship at the local Collegium illustrious . In September 1778 he was appointed associate professor of law at the University of Tübingen . In September 1781 he followed the call as the fifth full professor of law at the University of Erlangen , received the post of Princely Brandenburg Court Councilor in 1783 and moved up to the fourth position in the faculty in 1784.

He was considered a thorough and tireless teacher who was familiar with law, philosophy, and old and new languages. He was friendly in dealings with, humble in his judgments, and highly valued by his listeners for his pleasant and clear presentation.

The Tübingen philosophy professor Andreas Heinrich Schott was his brother.
