August Christian Rosenkranz (born March 17, 1886 in Altenkirchen ; † May 26, 1954 ) was a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and a member of the state assembly of Greater Hesse that advised the constitution .

Life

August Rosenkranz attended elementary school and trained as a bricklayer . He worked in the profession he had learned and passed the master craftsman examination. From 1902 he attended the Idstein building trade school , where he passed the civil engineering examination in 1910 . From 1910 to 1914 he worked as a construction assistant, before doing military service from 1914 to 1918 . After the war he was a civil engineer at the Reichsbauamt Weilburg in 1918/1919.

From 1933 to 1936 he worked as a bricklayer and technician. From 1936 he worked as a construction technician in the construction department Alsfeld, where he worked as an engineer and site manager since 1938.

August Rosenkranz had been a union member since 1904. In 1919 he joined the SPD and became chairman of the SPD Altenkirchen and managing director of the Reich Banner . From 1919 to 1925 he was mayor of Altenkirchen, then municipal mayor. From 1919 to 1933 he was a member of the district council of the Oberlahnkreis .

For the SPD, he moved into the Wiesbaden municipal parliament and the provincial parliament of the Hesse-Nassau province in 1933 . After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he was arrested in 1933 after a speech in the municipal parliament and lost his political posts.

On January 1, 1940, he joined the NSDAP .

In May 1945 he was appointed mayor of Alsfeld . On June 21, 1945 he was appointed district administrator of the Alsfeld district by the occupying power . On October 31, 1945 he was dismissed from this office because of his membership in the NSDAP.

In the denazification process , he was classified as "exonerated" on June 6, 1946. However, he had given false information in the registration form regarding his NSDAP membership. In an appeal decision of June 13, 1946, he was classified as a “ fellow traveler ” just a week later .

After the first free local elections in Hesse in 1946 , he was elected by the district council as district administrator and took office on July 1, 1946. In criminal proceedings for multiple falsification of registration forms, he was punished on January 23, 1947 with an atonement of 600  DM and the prohibition of continued employment in all public offices. On that day he resigned from office as district administrator.

From July 15, 1946 to November 30, 1946 he was a member of the state assembly of Greater Hesse, which advised the constitution. He chaired the reparations committee there.
