August Schneider

August Schneider (born October 20, 1851 in Lüben , † June 25, 1929 in Dresden ) was mayor of the city of Katowice (present-day Poland ) from 1890 to 1902 . August Schneider was also the Privy Councilor of Justice of Kaiser Wilhelm II , a lawyer and notary and an honorary citizen of the city of Katowice.

Life and work

August Schneider, born as the son of District Court Judge Heinrich E. Schneider in Lüben and as the grandson of Hofrat Otto Heinrich Schneider (born 1810 in Glogau ), studied in Breslau after graduating from high school and passed the oral examination at the Faculty of Law on January 4, 1882. During his studies in 1870 he became a member of the Germania Breslau fraternity . A short time later, the admission took place through entry in the list of lawyers at the district court in Myslowitz / Kattowitz and the opening of a law firm. After a unanimous election as mayor of the city of Katowice, he was inaugurated on August 4, 1890 as “First Mayor” with a subsequent term of 12 years. Elected for a further twelve years on January 16, 1902, he had to resign on December 31, 1902 for health reasons. After his tenure as mayor, he held various office activities in Berlin and Dresden. Schneider died on June 25, 1929 at the age of 78 in Dresden.

Honors

August Schneider was also bearer of the Red Eagle Order IV. Class and since December 24, 1902 the Prussian Crown Order III. Class.
