Schreiber was a merchant and particular in Sontheim . There he was the owner of the so-called A. Schreiberisches Landhauses and other buildings erected in the 1760s by Franz Bianchi as a tobacco factory, which last belonged to the Wolko shoe factory .

At the end of the 18th century, Schreiber represented the city's interests several times because Heilbronn wanted to retain its imperial city status. As thanks for his services to the city of Heilbronn, he received a silver service consisting of two jugs, a sugar bowl and a tray, which the city of Heilbronn presented to him for his services. An inscription in Latin is engraved on the tray:

AUGUSTO SCHREIBER
CIVI HEILBRONNENSI
PRO BENE MERITIS
HAECCE VASA
DONO OBTULIT
PATRIA GRATA
1799

The creator of the service was the gold and silver worker Brand .

After Benjamin Friedrich Haakh resigned from his mandate, Schreiber was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Württemberg estates in a replacement election for the city of Heilbronn in 1821 . In 1823 he in turn resigned from the mandate. Gottlieb Link was elected as his successor .
