August Wilhelm Eberhard Christoph Wibel (born August 1, 1775 in Ernsbach , † December 25, 1813 in Wertheim ) was a German doctor and botanist . His botanical author abbreviation is " Wibel ".

Life

August Wilhelm Eberhard Christoph Wibel studied medicine in Jena and received his doctorate in 1797.

Wibel initially worked as a doctor in Wertheim and later as a personal physician, councilor and physician for the Wertheim district. He died of typhus in a Russian hospital in Wertheim.

August Wibel is the first to describe numerous botanical taxa.

Honors

Johann Jakob Bernhardi named the plant genus Wibelia from the Davalliaceae family in his honor .
