The Augusta Hospital (AKH) is an acute clinic in Düsseldorf-Oberrath . It brings together all of the specialist clinics required for diagnosis and treatment under one roof. The house has 163 beds, 420 employees and treats around 30,000 patients annually. Since the foundation stone was laid in 1904, the clinic has been under the leadership of the Daughters of the Holy Cross and has been a member of the Mörsenbroich-Rath GmbH hospital since 1973, which has been part of the Association of Catholic Clinics in Düsseldorf (VKKD) since 2004 .

history

The Cologne Archbishop Hubert Theophilus Simar granted permission to build an office for receiving and caring for the sick on October 30, 1901 the Daughters of the Holy Cross. On March 25, 1902, the relevant Prussian ministers gave their approval. On November 13, 1902, the building plans were submitted to the mayor's office in Rath, and after some changes to the plans, the building permit was granted in the summer of 1903.

In September 1904, the St. Josefs Hospital was moved into and put into operation. In November 1904 the first operation was carried out by Dr. Franz Backhaus. On May 31, 1910, the house was renamed "Augusta Hospital". In 1921 a new department for ear, nose and throat ailments was established. In 1922/1923 the conversion work for the extension began. In 1932/1933 an obstetric and gynecological department was set up.

In 1933/1934 it was recognized as an accident hospital and a transit doctor station. On November 2, 1944, the house was hit directly by an air raid. The front of the right wing was almost completely destroyed, and with it the operating theaters and the X-ray department that was newly established during the war . Six people died when the ceilings collapsed. On the courtyard side, several parts of the house were affected, including the choir and altar of the chapel, lounge area of ​​the surgical women's department, nurses' dining room and the main kitchen. The operation was stopped for the time being. In February 1945, the first patients moved into the basement, which had been provisionally made into a hospital room.

post war period

On September 27, 1945, the hospital received an X-ray machine. It was a damaged device from a destroyed hospital that was being repaired. In 1948 the hospital was put to its actual purposes. On July 1, 1955, the destroyed right wing was pulled up again with space for a new operating department and hospital room with a total capacity of 30 beds. On November 1, 1973, the contract for the takeover of the Augusta Hospital by the Mörsenbroich Rath GmbH came into force. On December 31, 1992, the Sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Holy Cross finished their service in the hospital.
