Auguste Hetkamp (born August 26, 1885 - † August 11, 1944 in Plötzensee prison , Berlin ) was a German Jehovah's Witness and a victim of Nazi war justice.

Live and act

Hetkamp was a member of the Bible Students' Community (Jehovah's Witnesses) from an early age . She lived in Oberhausen and had two daughters and five sons, including Wilhelm Hetkamp († 1942) and Heinrich Hetkamp († 1943), who were executed by the National Socialist regime during the Second World War . Command ("You shall not kill") of the Decalogue had refused to serve in the war. During the war, Hetkamp became involved in the International Bible Students' Association, which was active underground against the Nazi system. As Julius Engelhard's most important employee , she and this and other Jehovah's Witnesses built up a network of like-minded people in the Rhineland , which, among other things , withdrew and distributed copies of the magazine Der Wachtturm , which the National Socialists classified as anti- subversive.

In April 1943, Engelhard and Hetkamp's group was broken up by the police . Hetkamp, together with Engelhard and six other leading members of Jehovah's Witnesses from the Oberhausen area , was found guilty of undermining military strength by the 6th Senate of the People's Court on June 2, 1944 and sentenced to death. After temporary imprisonment in the women's prison on Barnimstrasse in Berlin, Auguste Hetkamp was executed together with Klara Stoffels on August 11, 1944 in the Berlin-Plötzensee prison.

On April 7, 2011, a stumbling block was laid in front of Kalkstrasse 7 in Oberhausen in memory of Auguste Hetkamp.
