Augustine Boumah

Augustin Boumah (born November 7, 1927 in Libreville , French Equatorial Africa , today: Gabon ; † April 23, 2015 ) was a Gabonese politician who was minister several times and President of the National Assembly between 1980 and 1990 .

Life

Boumah, who belonged to the Bantu , was a graduate of the College of Overseas Studies ( École nationale de la France d'Outre-Mer ) after school and then worked for the French colonial administration in French Equatorial Africa . Most recently he was head of administration at the Court of Gabon after it became independent from France on August 17, 1960 . He was then in 1961 head of the labor and workers in the Ministry of Labor Department and then from 1963 to 1965 Chef de Cabinet of the Ministry of Labor before he was the National School of Administration from 1965 to 1966 director.

In January 1967 Boumah was appointed to the government for the first time by President Léon M'ba as Minister for Youth and Sport. After reshuffling the government, he took over the office of Justice Minister in April 1967 and the Office of Interior Minister in September 1967. After Léon M'ba's death on November 28, 1967, he retained the office of Minister of the Interior in the government of his successor Albert-Bernard Bongo . After the establishment of the Parti Démocratique Gabonais (PDG) unity party on March 12, 1968, he became a member of its executive committee. In July 1968 he took over the post of finance minister, which he later lost. In March 1973 he was reappointed Minister of Finance by President Bongo and held that office until 1975.

He was then President of the Supreme Court between 1975 and 1980 and, as the successor to Georges Damas Aleka in 1980, when he was replaced by Jules Aristide Bourdes Ogouliguende in 1990, President of the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale du Gabon) .

Boumah was married and had ten children.
