Augustin François Lemaître

Augustin François Lemaître (* 1797 ; † 1870 ) was a French reproduction engraver ( copper and steel engraver ), illustrator and lithographer .

Lemaitre worked as a reproduction engraver in Paris . Years before the breakthrough of steel engraving and then photography , two of his portrait engravings served the inventor of photography, Joseph Nicéphore Nièpce , in 1826 as objects in the development of a new type of reproduction process, heliography .
