The Augustinian Canons of the Immaculate Conception ( Latin : Congregatio Canonicorum Regularium Immaculatae Conceptionis , abbreviation : CRIC ), also known as "Regulated Canons of the Immaculate Conception", are a congregation of priests and friars in the Roman Catholic Church .

history

The founding of the religious order goes back to the French priest Adrien Gréa (1828-1917). He founded the first community in Saint-Claude ( France ) together with two other canons . The founding members had made their perpetual vows in 1866 and received from Popes Pius IX. and Leo XIII. the first permits. The Decretum laudis took place in 1876. On February 11, 1913, the congregation received final papal approbation from Pius X. The first motherhouse was built in Saint-Claude in 1890, and in 1890 it was moved to Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye . It stayed here until 1903, as a result of the French legislation of 1901, the members were expelled and moved to the province of Genoa ( Italy ). In 1922 the present General House was built in Rome .

The expansion

The small community developed into an international congregation, in 1891 the first canons moved to Canada , in 1905 they set up a mission station in Peru , and since 1932 they had a delegation in England . The members took on educational tasks and provided training for young people.
