The Augustiner-Keller is a traditional restaurant with beer garden in Munich district Maxvorstadt . It was opened in the first half of the 19th century and is one of the most popular beer gardens in the state capital. In the Augustiner cellar at Arnulfstrasse 52 , beer from Munich's oldest brewery, Augustiner-Bräu Wagner KG , is served.

history

Today's restaurant was first mentioned on a Munich city map as a beer storage facility in 1812. At that time, the property belonged to the Büchl brewery, which no longer exists . The city address book from 1842 recorded a beer garden with food and drink distribution in the then Salzstrasse . Although he was across from the Munich execution site on the Marsfeld , he was counted among the most beautiful in the city. Also in 1842, Georg Knorr took over the restaurant, which was subsequently renamed the Knorrkeller . In 1862 the owner of the Augustiner brewery bought the property; In 1880 the restaurant was given its current name. In 1896 the facility was converted: a beer garden with up to 5,000 seats as well as a large ballroom and kitchen were created. In 2010 the couple Christian and Petra Vogler took over the Augustiner-Keller as tenant.
