Augusto Cesar Ferreira Gil (born July 31, 1873 in Lordelo do Ouro , Porto District , Portugal ; † November 26, 1929 in Guarda , Portugal) was a Portuguese poet .

Live and act

Augusto Gil was born near Porto and spent his youth in Guarda. He studied law in Coimbra and then worked as a lawyer in Lisbon . Before his death he lived in Guarda for some time.

His poetry is primarily influenced by Guerra Junqueiro , João de Deus and António Nobre . Parnasism , symbolism and ultra-romanticism were among the genres he valued most. His most famous poem is "Ballada da Neve" (" Ballad of the Snow ").

A street in Lisbon, a primary school in Guarda and a foundation that advocates the schooling of children from socially disadvantaged families are named after him.

Gil died in Guarda in 1929.
