Augustus Corvus
Augustus Corvus (also Augustus Cordus ) was a German painter who worked in the second half of the 16th century .
He was a student of Lucas Cranach the Elder. Ä. and worked for a while in his workshop. From 1555 at the latest he stayed in Dresden . A painting signed and dated “Augustus Corvus / faciebat. / 1558” depicting “ Maria with the Child ” was acquired by the Berlin Gemäldegalerie in 1911 and loaned to the German Embassy in London in 1937. In 1945 it was confiscated by the Allies and auctioned off. Its whereabouts have been unknown since then.
