Aukschtaitisch (also: Upper Lithuanian , Lithuanian : aukštaičių tarmė ) is a dialect of the Lithuanian language that is mainly spoken in Upper Lithuania , the eastern and central part of Lithuania . Aukštaitic has three groups: western, eastern and southern dialects. Western African is divided into a north and a south group and forms the basis of the standard Lithuanian language.

West Kuchhtai
West Akshtaite ( lit-wau ) is divided into North-West Aksaite and South-West Aksaite and includes the following dialects:
- Šiauliškių šnekta , the town of Šiauliai and the district of Šiauliai
- Kauniškių šnekta , Kaunas City (Kowno) and Kaunas Rajong Municipality
- Klaipėdos krašto šnekta or klaipėdiškių šnekta , Klaipėda City and Klaipėda Rajong Municipality (Memel Region )
Ostaukschtaitisch
Ostaukschtaitisch ( lit-eas ) is spoken in the east of Upper Lithuania :
- Panevėžiškių šnekta , Panevėžys City and Panevėžys Rajong Parish
- Širvintiškių šnekta , district of Širvintos
- Anykštėnų šnekta , Anykščiai district municipality
- Kupiškėnų šnekta , Kupiškis district municipality
- Uteniškių šnekta , Utena district municipality
- Vilniškių šnekta , City of Vilnius and District Municipality of Vilnius
South Akshtai
South Akshtai or Dzuk ( lit-sau ), Dzūkija region(Dainava). This subdialect differs in many places in southern Lithuania, e.g. B. in the Druskininkai community or in the Lazdijai Rajongemeinde .
