Auke Zijlstra

Auke Zijlstra (born November 1, 1964 in Joure ) is a Dutch politician . He represents the right-wing populist Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) in the European Parliament .

Life

Zijlstra studied economics at the University of Groningen . After completing his studies, he worked from 1991 to 2002 as an ICT project manager for the British American Tobacco company , after which he held positions in the Dutch Ministry of the Interior. Zijlstra was personally nominated by PVV member Geert Wilders for the 2009 European elections , but failed to make it into parliament and became the parliamentary assistant for a successful colleague. As the successor to Daniël van der Stoep, Zijlstra moved up as a member of the European Parliament in September 2011; he held this seat until the 2014 European elections. Again unsuccessfully on his list, he moved into the European Parliament as a successor, this time for the late Hans Jansen .

Member of the European Parliament

In his first legislative term, Zijlstra sat on the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs . In the second legislative period, Zijlstra sat on the budget committee from 2015 to 2017 . However, his work on the Development Committee was short-lived in October 2015. Since March 1, 2017, he has been a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.

He was also involved in the delegations for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council, Afghanistan, Israel and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.

Zijlstra is or was also active in the committees for industry, research and energy as well as for economics and currency .

Zijlstra was a non-attached MEP until 2015, when he joined the Europe of Nations and Freedom Group (ENF) with the PVV on September 8, 2015 .
