Aultmore is a whiskey distillery near Keith , Banffshire, Scotland , UK .
history
The distillery was built by Alexander Edwards in 1896. In 1898 it became part of his Oban & Aultmore-Glenlivet Distilleries . In 1913 it was owned by John Dewar & Sons and in 1925 it was taken over by Distillers Company Limited (DCL) .
In 1970/1971, Aultmore was renovated and expanded from two to four stills. In 1987 United Distillers (UD) took over the distillery. In 1998, Diageo / UD sold the distillery as part of Dewar’s together with Bombay Sapphire Gin to Bacardi for £ 1,150 million .
production
The water of the distillery, which belongs to the Highlands / Speyside region, comes from the Auchinderran Burn. The malt comes from the United Distillers-Maltings in Burghead, Roseisle and Glenesk . The distillery has a mash tun ( mash do ) (9.2 tons) of steel and six fermentation tanks ( wash backs ) (per 46,500 liters) of larch . Distillation takes place in two wash stills (15,500 l each) and two spirit stills (14,859 l each) that are heated by steam.
Bottlings
A 12-year-old single malt has been available as an original bottling since 2004. There is a 21 year old from the United Distillers Rare Malts series. The Shieldaig collection has a 16 year old (251 bottles) and a 23 year old (162 bottles).
