Aurangabad is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is the capital of the Aurangabad district of the same name . Aurangabad has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). It is about 140 km from Bihar's capital, Patna .
Demographics
The city's population is 102,244 according to the 2011 census. Aurangabad has a gender ratio of 910 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The literacy rate was 86.0% in 2011. Almost 75.3% of the population are Hindus , around 24.2% are Muslims and around 0.5% belong to other religions. 14.5% of the population are children under 6 years of age. There are Hindi and dialect Magahi spoken.

Aurangabad has a predominantly agricultural economy. It is in a drought-prone area. The main crops are rice , wheat , lentils and rapeseed . Other industries are power generation and cement production. Manufactured products include carpets, blankets and brassware.
