Aureliano Sánchez Arango (born June 7, 1907 in Havana , † 1976 in Miami ) was Minister of Education under President Carlos Prío in Cuba .

Life

Aureliano Sánchez Arango studied law and was in opposition to Gerardo Machado y Morales (1925–1933), later he was professor of law at the University of Havana .

Sánchez Arango was a member of the Partido Revolucionario Cubano (Auténticos) . He was accused by the founder of the Partido del Pueblo Cubano (Ortodoxos) , Eduardo Chibás , on the TV channel CMQ (the brothers Goar y Abel Mestre Espinosa) of having bought land in Guatemala with money for school meals. Sánchez Arango had the publisher of the newspaper Revista Bohemia offered compromising photos of Prío through journalist friends . Chibás Rivas therefore claimed that he had evidence that Prío Socarrás had been outside of Cuba without the permission of Parliament. Sánchez Arango asked Chibás to produce the evidence. When he was unable to produce the evidence, Chibás shot himself in the stomach on August 5, 1951 after a brief address on the station and died 10 days later of the injuries.

In 1952, during the reign of Fulgencio Batista , Sánchez Arango founded the Frente Nacional Democrático . From this, the Asociación de Amigos de Aureliano split off in 1954 .

Sánchez Arango gave a substantial part of the financing of the expedition of the motor yacht Granma , during which 82 revolutionaries of the " Movement of July 26th " led by Fidel Castro on November 25th 1956 transferred from Tuxpan ( Mexico ) to Cuba to the Batista Overthrow regime.
