Aurelio Mistruzzi

Aurelio Mistruzzi (born February 7, 1880 in Villaorba di Basiliano , † December 25, 1960 in Rome ) was an Italian sculptor and medalist .

Life

Aurelio Mistruzzi spent his childhood in his birthplace in the province of Udine . At his father's request, he received his first training as a surveyor at the Udine trade school . Then in 1903 he began his studies at the Venice Art Academy , which he then continued at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan . In 1908 Aurelio Mistruzzi moved to Rome .

Act

First artistic activities as a sculptor in Udine . Scholarship holder at the Scuola dell'Arte della Medaglia in Rome . As a sculptor, he created numerous tombs and memorials for the fallen in Venice , Udine, Pordenone , Castelfranco Veneto , Gaeta . Examples of his religious art: the statue of Francis of Assisi in the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua and the bust of Pope Pius XI. for the Jesuit college in the Palazzo di Propaganda Fide in Rome.

In 1920 Mistruzzi became the official medalist of the Holy See . The official annual medals for Popes Benedict XV come from his studio . , Pius XI. , Pius XII. and John XXIII.

Mistruzzi is considered an outstanding Italian medalist of the 20th century. Much of his work can be found in private and public collections.
