Aurora is a Hungarian punk rock band from Győr .

Band history

Aurora was founded in 1982 by “Vigi” (guitar / vocals), “Galacs” (bass), “Polyak” (drums) and “Dauer” (vocals) in Győr, Hungary.

In the first few years, the band was critical of the communist regime and Aurora was banned. From 1984 to 1988 they performed under a false name. Her singer at the time, Dauer, was imprisoned for two years because he “had not made the right choice of words” with the communists. Then he was expelled from the country. Aurora had to find a new singer. "Kriszta" became the new singer. But after a short time this aurora also left. From then on, “Vigi” had to sing because no equivalent replacement could be found.

During this time a few Austrian punks became aware of the band. Aurora played her first concert outside of Eastern Europe. In 1988 the Hungarians went on tour through Germany for the first time. From the concert income they released their first EP "Aurora", which was released on the German music label "Empty Records".

In 1989 the debut album "Viszlát Iván" (German "Tschüss, Iwan ") was released, which coincidentally coincides with the end of the Soviet occupation in Hungary. "Viszlát Iván" was a huge success for the circumstances; 20,000 records can be sold. Her next album “Előre, Kurvák, Gengszterek” (“Forward, Whores and Gangsters”) was released in 1992 after three years of work and even surpassed “Viszlát Iván”, not least thanks to the excellent production. “Előre, Kurvák, Gengszterek” was finally published on “ Hulk Räckorz ” in Germany. In 1994 the CD "Mindhalálig Punk" ("Forever Punk ") was released with their friend from Germany, WIZO . You can hear old WIZO songs and the first Aurora recordings on it.

In the mid-nineties, Aurora released two albums that were “rockier”, ie also more commercial , namely “Fel Tamadás” (“Resurrection”) and “Keserű Cukor” (“Bitter Sugar”). However, neither was particularly successful. Her album "Nincs Karácsony" ("There is no Christmas"), released in 1996, was then again "punkier" and was nominated in Hungary for "Punk Album of the Year". On “Nincs Karácsony” you can also hear their new band member “Qka” for the first time, who impresses with his trumpet playing. A year later her album "Illegális bal" ("Illegale Party") was released.

In 1999 Amoebenklang Records released "Rúkensturcli in Kukenstrasse" together with the Hamburg punk band Antibodies , which also appeared on Aurora Records. Also in 1999 was the “Compilation 1983–1989”, a CD with songs from 1983 to 1989, with “ Hulk Räckorz ” in Germany and with Aurora Records under the title “Valogatás” with a slightly different selection of titles. And in 1999 they also recorded the studio album "Balkan Express". “Balkan Express” contains three new trumpet songs, some pop songs and several fast songs in the well-known Aurora quality. It's one of Aurora's most diverse albums.

In 2001 Aurora produced her album "A rezervátum mélyén". In 2004 the latest album was released on the Aurora Records label under the title “Meddig tart?” (“How long?”). All songs on the new album are under 2½ minutes. This makes it the band's shortest album to date. In the opinion of drummer Kiskovács, the new work can best be compared with the album “Keserü Cukor”.
