The Ausee is located on the Au peninsula in Lake Zurich in the area of the municipality of Wädenswil in the Swiss canton of Zurich . The lake belongs to the Au estate .

The Ausee is 405 m above sea level. M. on the west side of the peninsula and is fed and drained by a canal from Lake Zurich. The artificial lake is 4.3 hectares in size, 350 meters long and almost 150 meters wide. The small lake and the vineyard on the Auhügel belong to the Au estate, which was acquired by Hans Rudolf Werdmüller in 1651 . The current baroque style building dates from the 1930s. The estate now belongs to the Canton of Zurich.
The Ausee, which is surrounded by reeds, is the habitat of various rare bird species. It takes a good quarter of an hour to walk around the lake along the promenade. Bathing in the Ausee is forbidden; you must use the bathing establishments on Lake Zurich.

Visitors arriving by public transport can take the train to the Au train station, which is located directly on the Ausee. The lake is also easily accessible on foot from the nearby restaurant. The entire Au peninsula offers other hiking trails, several Nagelfluh caves , nature protection zones and a playground.
