Austin Dempster (born March 5, 1921 in Godstone , Surrey , United Kingdom , † November 2, 1975 in Surrey, ibid) was a British cameraman .

Live and act

Dempster received his camera engineering training at the beginning of the Second World War and had been active as a simple cameraman since the early 1940s. In this capacity Dempster photographed a number of neat, but rather old-fashioned Herbert Wilcox productions from the mid-1940s to the mid-1950s . Afterwards Dempster was subordinate to the chief cameraman Christopher Challis for a good ten years . Under Challis' leadership, Dempster stood behind the camera in 15 films, including The Spanish Gardener , Battleship Graf Spee , The Last Voyage of the Bismarck , Before House Friends Are Warned , Viking Raid , The Victors , Arabesque and Two on the Same Path .

At the beginning of 1967 Austin Dempster was given his first assignment as chief cameraman, but in this position the Briton could hardly make a really high-quality film optically until his untimely death in November 1975. After all, he was featured in the 1972 Oscar- winning comedy film Man, You're Great! with Glenda Jackson and George Segal as chief photographer behind the camera. In 1975 he took over the second unit photography for the large-scale Hollywood production Adventurer on the Lucky Lady . That same year, Austin Dempster died suddenly while filming the unfinished film The New Spartans .
