The Australian Professional Championship 1973 was a professional snooker tournament in the 1973/74 season without influence on the world rankings and in function of the national professional championship of Australia. The tournament without prize money or sponsors was held from July 23 to August 22, 1973 at the Wagga RSL Club in the Australian city of Wagga Wagga . For the fifth time in a row and for the eighth time overall, Eddie Charlton won the tournament when he defeated native Welshman Gary Owen 31:10 in the final. In addition, Charlton played the highest break of the tournament with a 129 break .
Tournament course
A total of seven players took part in the tournament, only Rex King was not a professional player and thus took part in the tournament as an amateur. Six of the seven players - apparently Allan McDonald was seeded for the semifinals - started the tournament in the quarterfinals, with the three winners of the quarterfinals complementing the semifinals in addition to McDonald, so that the tournament was finally played in the knockout system . While the game mode of the quarter-finals is unclear, the semi-finals were played in the best of 37 frames and the final in the best of 61 frames .

final
The Australian Eddie Charlton could already be called a permanent guest in the final of the Australian Professional Championship at this point, as he had not reached the final or at least second place at the first edition of the tournament in 1963 . He had won a total of seven times in previous editions, including the four previous editions. That year he had defeated Ian Anderson and Warren Simpson , so there was a new edition of the previous year's final in the final against Gary Owen . For his part, Owen had clearly beaten Rex King and Allan McDonald .
No exact frame results are known from the final itself. However, in the end, Charlton defeated Owen with a 103 break with 31:10, winning his ninth title overall and the fifth in a row.
