The Australian or West Australian anemonefish ( Amphiprion rubrocinctus ) occurs only on the coast of north-western Australia ( e.g. from the Ningaloo Reef to the northeast tip of Arnhem Land ) in water depths of one to eight meters. It lives in symbiosis with the bubble anemone ( Entacmaea quadricolor ) and the giant anemone ( Stichodactyla gigantea ).

The Australian anemonefish is 9.5 to twelve centimeters long. The length is 1.7 to 2 times the body height. It is colored dark red. All fins are red. On each side of the head there is a white horizontal stripe behind the eye. With increasing age, the body, beginning on the back, becomes increasingly blackish, the horizontal stripes become increasingly narrow and weaker.
The dorsal fin has ten hard and 15 to 18 soft rays, the anal fin has two hard and 13 to 15 soft rays. The pectoral fins are supported by 18 to 19 fin rays. On the first gill arch there are 18 to 19 gill trap processes. The sideline is accompanied by 32 to 44 scales.
