Autobahn is a German documentary film from 2019 by Daniel Abma . The film premiered in October 2019 at the DOK Leipzig documentary film festival.
content
The 85-minute documentary portrays the construction of the northern bypass ( federal motorway 30 ) in the city of Bad Oeynhausen . The documentation focuses in particular on the residents, while the construction of the bypass road is documented around the story of the characters, which is intended to relieve the city of the high volume of traffic in the future. The long-term observation was filmed over a period of eight years and celebrated its world premiere at the DOK Leipzig Documentary Film Festival 2019.
production
The start of production and research began in 2011 by Abma (director) and Schittek (camera). Back then, while studying at the Babelsberg University of Film and Television, the team wanted to begin the initial construction work in an observational study. In the years that followed, the construction of the motorway section became more complex and the 2014 completion date was repeatedly postponed. The delay in the construction work went hand in hand with greater production costs, and the observational study on a section of the motorway turned into a long-term documentation of the residents of the towns of Bad Oeynhausen and Löhne who were affected by the construction. The shooting amounted to a total of eight years (2011-2018). The film finally went into post-production in early 2019.
criticism
"Autobahn shows a great cross-section through society."
"Picked up with a fine feel for special characters and plenty of room for their personalities and peculiarities."
“In AUTOBAHN, the stories lie on the street. Abma collects them with great calm and philanthropy on and next to the whispered asphalt. "
"Stories are" picked up "with a fine instinct for unusual characters and leaving lots of space for their personalities and quirks."
"A very personal and direct approach to filming a vast and wide-reaching infrastructural change with a uniquely German subject matter."
