Motorway construction site

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A motorway construction site is a construction site on a motorway . It is often run as a permanent construction site . For motorway construction sites, special construction and traffic regulations apply compared to general construction sites .

Tendering and awarding procedures

Motorway construction sites must be advertised to the public . They are listed in the federal transport route plan.

Construction site setup phase

In front of a construction site with sufficient retroreflective signage in accordance with § 40 STVo (traffic signs 123 and 120/121 ), a so-called speed funnel must slow down the traffic if one lane is missing in each direction. Otherwise a general speed limit and no overtaking for heavy traffic is sufficient

At large construction sites, shortened entrances and exits must be set up if a swiveling lane is provided. In the case of a shortened entrance, the right of way is regulated by traffic signs and the threading strips are omitted. A so-called auxiliary connection point can also be present. There is therefore an increased risk of traffic accidents .

The length of the motorway construction site must be specified, as well as the building contractor . The type of construction site ( road renovation or the like) is also often specified at the beginning of the construction site.

The building contractor can, for his part, use subcontractors whom he assigns to carry out the construction.

Construction work

The construction work is to be divided into several construction phases and is carried out independently by the commissioned company within a certain time window . It is up to the company to decide when which work is carried out. An exception is given if there is another lane closure or an important event .

Building acceptance

A proper construction inspection must be carried out.

Behavior in motorway construction sites

A defensive driving style and anticipatory driving are indicated. The sudden narrowness and the change in lanes require full attention. It also reduces the risk of driving in the right-hand lane when facing heavy traffic and not overtaking. AXA Versicherung makes essential demands on the improvement of the infrastructure: Impact absorbers on signal walls can be proven to save the lives of construction workers and drivers, the consistent use of vibrating strips warns inattentive drivers at an early stage of a construction site, oncoming traffic must be separated by concrete elements or comparable crash barriers and the Provisional road markings must be checked regularly.

If there are signs of a traffic jam , an emergency lane must be formed immediately .
