The Aciliu Highway Viaduct is the longest and highest viaduct in Romania and is located south of the Aciliu Municipality in Sibiu County . It serves to transfer the Aciliu Valley and is part of the 582 km long A1 in the section between Orăştie and Sibiu (Hermannstadt).
history
An overpass of the Aciliu Valley in the form of a viaduct was already an option when planning the motorway. Since plans to bypass the area or a solution to the problem through a tunnel failed due to the high costs and the poor condition of the building site , the Romanian government and the EU decided to build this motorway viaduct within the framework of the Pan-European Transport Corridor .
After the twelve double pillars had been erected, the steel box girder was installed using the incremental launching method and then the deck slab was concreted. The viaduct is part of section 3 of the Orăştie – Sibiu motorway, which was built by the Italian Impregilo for 142 million euros . Construction work on the lot began on June 20, 2011 and should be completed in spring 2013. Due to difficult construction work, the section was not opened to traffic until November 14, 2014 and after ten days cracks were discovered in the roadway between Cunța and Sălişte , so that traffic was restricted here immediately after opening.
