Hotel without staff

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A hotel without staff is a type of accommodation in the hotel industry . This hotel variant has established itself very strongly in the last ten years and is already an inexpensive alternative to normal hotel operations in many countries and cities.

History of origin

The hotel without staff was introduced after several pilot tests, especially in 2009, when the economic crisis had a strong impact on the hotel industry. The aim was to offer high-quality equipped rooms for business and city travelers at lower prices. The area of personnel costs in particular offered savings potential . It was possible to dispense with breakfast or other meals in areas where there are enough restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood.

This type of hotel is known as a machine hotel . This avoids conceptual inaccuracy through the use of personnel for booking, cleaning and maintenance work.

procedure

The hotel is accessed via a machine at the entrance. After paying with a credit or check card, an access code is released with which the door can be opened and with which drinks and snacks machines in the lounge can be operated. When booking in advance, the access code is often communicated via SMS. There is a video line with an emergency call function for emergencies.

First houses

In Finland it was the establishment of the Finnish hotel chain Omena Hotels , including in the capital Helsinki . The hotel chain offers rooms for up to four people with simple furnishings. The rooms with kitchenette and kettle as well as refrigerator and dining area are booked and paid for online, the guest receives the access code to the house via SMS or email. The chain's previous hotels in Stockholm and Copenhagen are no longer open. The operator of the Stockholm hotel went bankrupt in February 2015.

There has been such a hotel in Waldkirch in Switzerland since 2009 and in January 2010 the Vasano Hotel in Leipzig on Augustusplatz opened with 18 suites “with 5-star facilities at a 4-star price”. In April 2011, the hotel was renamed Abito Suites for trademark protection reasons .
