Automobili Lamborghini is a racing simulation from the French publisher and developer Titus Interactive , in which vehicles from the racing car manufacturer Lamborghini can be driven. The game was released in late 1997 exclusively for the Nintendo 64 game console , initially in Europe and the USA, and six months later in Japan under the name Super Speed Race 64 (Japanese ス ー パ ー ス ピ ー ド レ ー ス 64).
Gameplay
In Automobili Lamborghini , the player slips into the role of a driver of (then) modern super sports cars . Good racing results can unlock additional routes and vehicles. However, the controller pak is required to save the game progress .
In addition to many vehicles from Lamborghini such as the Countach , Diablo , etc. you can still z. B. Unlock the Bugatti EB110 and the Porsche 959 . There are six routes available.
Versions
The Japanese version has some differences. Not only the name, Super Speed Race 64 , but also the level of difficulty has been changed. Furthermore, there are now adjustable weather conditions, a photo gallery, route previews and other minor changes.
A new release for the hardware expansion 64DD was probably planned.
Game modes
The following game modes are available:
- Championship
- Arcade
- Single race
- Time trial
control
The game is controlled with the N64's gamepad. The control can only be adapted as required in the Japanese version.
reception
The game received good ratings. The vehicles are realistically reproduced and the routes are varied. In contrast, the controls take getting used to and the sound is rather mediocre. GameSpot praised the graphics (" this could be the N64's best-looking racer ") and the accessibility of the game, but criticized the lack of complexity. Overall, Automobili magazine rated Lamborghini as “one of the most exciting racing games on console systems” and awarded 7.7 out of 10 points. The aggregation website GameRankings evaluated eleven reviews and calculated a metascore of 70%.
