Autumn is the second studio album by the American pianist George Winston . It was released in 1980 by the New Age label Windham Hill . The original A side of the LP wastitled September , the B side October . The music album is the start of a trilogy with autumn and winter motifs that Winston published between 1980 and 1982 at Windham Hill. This trilogy formed a cornerstone for the emerging New Age musical genre.

Publication and chart success

The album only reached the Billboard 200 in 1986 after being re-released in CD format in 1984 , reached number 139 and lasted 25 weeks. For the album one was in December 1987 platinum record in the American Phonoverband Recording Industry Association of America certified.

In 2001 the album was reissued as a 20th Anniversary Edition on Winston's own record label Dancing Cat with the bonus track Too Much Between Us .

reception

In his review for the music database Allmusic , the reviewer William Ruhlmann gave the highest number of points and said that Winston's impressions of autumn (the German meaning of the album title) are full of slow chords and sudden melodies.

Trivia

The American rock band Brazil used the beginning of Sea as a template for the beginning of the song It Keeps the Machine Running on the album Dasein (2002).
