The Auwiesen Zickenbachtal are a nature reserve in Austria .

geography

The wet meadows through which the Zickenbach flows between the places Heugraben (Croatian Žarnovica ), Eisenhüttl (Croatian Jezerjani ) and Rohr in Burgenland were placed under nature protection in 1991. The Auwiesen Zickenbachtal is a fen area , which is the largest fen area in Austria with an area of ​​42  hectares . Today the area is also a Natura 2000 and European protected area . According to various test drillings, the moor is around 13 meters thick and around 10,000 years old.

fauna and Flora

Galloway and Aberdeen Angus oxen are kept in and around the meadow , which is said to be better for the soil than agriculture. The meat is sold as 'Zickentaler Moorochse'. The ash willows find good growing conditions there and have to be cut every few years so that the meadows are preserved.
