Avalon is the eighth studio album by British art rock band Roxy Music . It was released on May 28, 1982 under the Warner Bros. Records label and was co-produced by the band. Avalon is considered to be the pinnacle of the adult-oriented sound of the band's later work.

Versions

In addition to the standard version as LP, the album was also sold on CD . In 2003, Virgin released Avalon on the Hybrid Super Audio CD with a new 5.1 channel surround sound remix by the original production team of Rhett Davies (producer) and Bob Clearmountain (audio engineer).

reception

Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album 31st out of the 100 best albums of the eighties. Avalon was the continuation of the style that Flesh and Blood was released in in 1980 . The “haunting melodies and hypnotic rhythms” were particularly appreciated.

When reviewing the album, Kurt Loder wrote in Rolling Stone magazine : “[...] the sound is now softer, more dreamy and less determinedly dramatic. Ferry's songwriting seemed [...] rarely to be stronger. "

Mark Coleman wrote for The New Rolling Stone Album Guide : "Avalon's influence on the British pop scene of the 1980s cannot be overstated."
