August Müller (born December 17, 1679 in Meuro , † September 27, 1749 in Kemberg ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

August was a son of the pastor Matthias Müller and the pastor's daughter Maria Magdalena, born on January 16, 1672. Michaelis. From 1692 he attended the city school in Schmiedeberg and in 1694 the city school in Wittenberg . In addition, from 1695 to 1697, he had received private home tuition from Johann Christian Bucke . In 1697 he came to the grammar school in Merseburg . On July 10, 1699, Müller began studying theology at the University of Wittenberg . On October 15, 1700, he was promoted to a master's degree in philosophy and, on August 25, 1707, as an adjunct of the philosophical faculty, he found access to the teaching staff of the university.

After he had obtained his licentiate in theology on March 20, 1710, he moved to Jessen as pastor and superintendent . On October 2, 1711 he received his doctorate in theology in Wittenberg. Following the call of the university, Müller accepted the post of provost and superintendent in Kemberg in 1716. He turned down the honorable offer to take on a professorship in Wittenberg at the age of 60. Since his memory declined sharply with age, he received his son Gottlieb as a substitute in 1746.

Müller brought out several small publications, all of which touched on religious subjects. This included six of his own disputations from the period from 1701 to 1709, four disputations by other people and three sermons that he had written himself. His portrait is on a painting in the Kemberger town church.
