Stranded is the third album by British art rock band Roxy Music . It was released on November 1, 1973.

History of origin

The creation of the album was shaped by personnel changes in the band's line-up and rumors that Roxy Music would dissolve. Brian Eno left the band in June 1973 in an argument with Bryan Ferry . He was replaced by ex- Curved Air Eddie Jobson , who played the violin in addition to the keyboards. On bass, John Porter was replaced by John Gustafson, who had already appeared with Quatermass as a singer and bassist as well as a studio musician. Stranded was recorded in September 1973 at AIR Studios in London at the same time as Brian Eno's debut album Here Come the Warm Jets with producer Chris Thomas . Eno produced Here Come the Warm Jets himself in September 1973 at Majestic Studios, also in London. Mackay, Manzanera and Thompson were instrumentalists on both Stranded and Here Come the Warm Jets , Manzanera also as co-composer for two titles by Eno's album and Thompson arranging a track. Stranded producer Chris Thomas played a bass track on Eno's debut on a track alongside the Sharks' Busta Cherry Jones . Rumors of the breakup of Roxy Music culminated in October 1973 with the release of Ferry's solo album These Foolish Things , on which he reinterpreted well-known classics with his voice. The rumors about the dissolution of Roxy Music subsided only with the appearance of the album, which was released at the same time as the single Street Life .
