Avaskar
Avaskär was a former Danish port city in the Blekinge province , which is now part of Sweden . The place was about 50 kilometers south of Kalmar .
history
Very little is known about the city's original history. It is believed that the Danish king Waldemar IV destroyed the city's documents when he retook Blekinge in the 14th century. In 1451 the Swedish King Charles VIII and the Danish King Christian I met in Avakär. Both countries had been at war since 1449 and the meeting was supposed to negotiate which country should be entitled to the island of Gotland . However, there was no result.
Avaskar was poorly fortified and the port conditions deteriorated due to the uplift of the land . On September 15, 1563 the city was burned down by Sweden during the Three Crowns War . It was rebuilt, but the heyday of the place was over. In 1598, Sigismund III met entered Avaskär with his fleet and moved from here to Kalmar to claim his right to the Swedish throne. A year later, the Danish King Christian IV decided to replace the place with the much better fortified city of Kristianopel . Then Avaskar disappeared from the map.
