Avdullah Hoti (born February 4, 1976 in Orahovac , Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar economist and politician ( LDK ) and has been Prime Minister of Kosovo since June 3, 2020 .

Life

Avdullah Hoti studied management and computer science at the University of Prishtina Faculty of Economics from 1994 to 1998 , where he worked as an assistant from 1998. This was followed by a master’s and doctoral degree at Staffordshire University . From 2008 he was a lecturer at the University of Prishtina, since 2012 he has been an associate professor there.

He has been a member of his party's executive committee since 2010. From 2010 to 2013 he was Deputy Mayor of Pristina . In the general election in 2014 , he was elected deputy.

Between December 2014 and August 2017 he was Finance Minister of Kosovo in the government of Prime Minister Isa Mustafa .

After Albin Kurti's government, in which Hoti was deputy prime minister, collapsed in March 2020, he was nominated as his successor on April 23. The constitutional court of the Republic of Kosovo stopped the formation of a government on May 1st. On May 28, the Constitutional Court overturned this decision and Hoti became Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo on June 3, 2020. He heads the Hoti cabinet .

On August 2, 2020, Hoti announced via his Facebook account that he had tested positive for COVID-19 but had only mild symptoms and announced that he would be working from home for a few weeks.
