The Avicenna Bay is a small bay on the east coast of Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago off the western coast of the Antarctic Graham Lands . It is located 2.5 km southwest of Cape d'Ursel .
It was roughly mapped during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) under the direction of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . In 1959 the mapping was carried out using aerial photographs taken by Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. Created between 1956 and 1957. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after the Persian doctor and polymath Avicenna (980-1037).
